I am pleased to welcome the sixth edition of the International Fair of Modern and Contemporary Art in Bolzano , which, thanks to its constant growth, has been able to draw the attention of important and qualified professionals from all over the world to our province. At the same time, the organisers of the event have always promoted artists and local institutions, thus showing how vibrant this sector is in our province.

This event succeeded in finding its valuable place in the cultural life of our province and also on an international level. It is thanks to such events that we are able to give the citizens a better understanding of the world of art and its meaning.  

I would like to thank the curators and all those who made this fair possible. I hope the fair will be very successful, appealing to both participants and visitors alike.

We are proud that Kunstart is part of the many events held at the Bolzano Exhibition Center.

Once again, the vibrant city of Bolzano is showing its innate vocation in the areas of trade, art and hospitality, our key characteristics since medieval times. Then, communication was difficult; streets, contacts and exchanges were at constant risk of being interrupted. During those difficult and dangerous times, the fair was a location of trust, and Bauzanum was the ideal venue to trade peacefully and with legal safety. The fairs and the Bolzano Exhibition Center survived changes of power balances, of state systems and affiliations, wars and epidemics; they also survived the great revolutions before and after 1800. A strong and enduring tradition emerged from these experiences; the secret was and is the constant changes in structure and the constant efforts to always be up to date. On this note, we wish Kunstart and its market all the best. We are sure to offer them an ideal venue, up to the task and rich in incentives.

In the competition “The Glocal Rookie of the Year”, created and organised by the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation of Bolzano in collaboration with Kunstart, an award is granted to those young artists who are able to portray new contents and styles while adopting a “global” and at the same time “local” approach in their art.

Our idea is to show that especially art can help younger generations to understand the zeitgeist of their era and live it without inhibitions, whether they live in New York or Bolzano. Cultural energies and resources that invite us to “look far into the distance” can emerge everywhere, even in the periphery.

“The Glocal Rookie of the Year” wants to be a regular appointment alongside the annual young and promising art fair, thus hopefully supporting both upswing and success.
